CURRENT ANCHOR FILM
ELECTRA
(2014 · 90 min)
Electra is a contemporary retelling of the ancient Greek myth, reimagined as the journey of a young woman who feels like a foreigner both in her own land and in others. Searching for a sense of self, she turns inward, attempting to construct a private world of her own. Shot over the course of two years, the film unfolds as a poetic puzzle, piecing together fragments of a broken identity that stretches from Africa to Europe.
Working alone behind the camera and relying entirely on improvisation with the actors, director Petros Sevastikoglou allows the myth to emerge through lived moments rather than scripted chronology. The narrative flows not by linear time but through emotional connections, where past and present overlap and the future begins to take shape. Electra’s odyssey becomes, ultimately, a return to her own land—the one she builds within herself.
